Use Your Dahua Camera Without a Subscription

Dahua cameras and recorders stream locally over RTSP and ONVIF. The DMSS app and Dahua's P2P cloud only add remote access — the camera records to its SD card or the recorder's disk and streams on your LAN with no mandatory fee. If a dealer set you up on a paid remote plan, you can drop it and keep every local feature.

Does Dahua lock your camera when you cancel?

No. Dahua / DMSS remote plan handles remote viewing and off-site storage — not your local stream. Cancel it and the camera keeps working on your own network over RTSP/ONVIF.

Dahua RTSP and ONVIF stream URLs

Main stream:

ONVIF: ONVIF on port 80. Enable it under Setup → Network → ONVIF and add an ONVIF user.

Dahua gotchas worth knowing

subtype=0 is the main stream, subtype=1 the sub-stream; on an NVR/XVR use channel=N.
Amcrest and Lorex are Dahua OEMs and use this exact RTSP API.
Some firmware ships with ONVIF disabled — turn it on before RSC can auto-discover.
Newer units force a password on first activation; a forgotten password needs a physical reset.

How to cancel Dahua / DMSS remote plan and keep the camera

Drop any dealer/DMSS remote plan — local recording and streaming are unaffected.
Log in to the camera or recorder's web UI at http://<device-ip>.
Setup → Network → ONVIF: enable it and add an ONVIF user; confirm RTSP is on.
Point RSC at the RTSP/ONVIF URL. On a recorder, set channel=N for each channel.
