Use Your Google Nest Camera Without a Subscription

Google Nest cameras stream only to the Google Home app. Google removed the old developer RTSP/API years ago, so there's no local stream to hand to another app. Nest Aware is what unlocks real history — without it you're left with a few hours of free event clips and no way to keep your own footage.

Does Google Nest lock your camera when you cancel?

Mostly yes. Newer Nest cameras have no RTSP, no ONVIF, and no local storage — the old Works-with-Nest RTSP/API was shut down. Everything routes through Google's cloud and the Home app.

What happens when you cancel

Without Nest Aware you keep live view and a rolling few hours of free event history, but you lose 24/7 recording, longer event storage and downloads. There is no local recording option to fall back on.
