Use Your Arlo Camera Without a Subscription

Arlo leans hard on its cloud. Modern Arlo cameras have no ONVIF or RTSP, and the old base-station local-RTSP option was removed, so almost everything depends on Arlo Secure. Cancel it and you're mostly left with live view.

Does Arlo lock your camera when you cancel?

Mostly yes. Current Arlo cameras expose no RTSP/ONVIF stream; the local-RTSP trick that some older base-station setups allowed has been discontinued on new hardware.

What happens when you cancel

Without Arlo Secure you keep live view but lose cloud recording, object detection and clip history. A few older base-station kits can save to a local USB/SD, but there's no third-party stream to point RSC at.

Arlo gotchas worth knowing

Battery Arlo cameras also limit live-view length and quality to save power.
No ONVIF/RTSP on current models — no VLC, no NVR, no local integration.
Feature availability changes with the plan tier; free tier is very limited.

Cancelling Arlo: your options

In the Arlo app → Settings → Subscription, cancel Arlo Secure. Live view remains; recording stops.
If you have an older base-station model, check whether local USB/SD recording is available.
For a real, portable setup, move to RSC on a phone or ONVIF camera.
